The 2013 Le Petit Haut Lafitte is quite a bit darker and more structured than the Hauts de Smith, the estate's other second wine owing to the higher presence of Cabernet Sauvignon. Slate, dried flowers, menthol and new leather all add complexity to the dark fruit. The tannins are a bit firm at this, but that should not be an issue in another few years. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot.
